HOW WE SELL SNOWBOARD BOOTS

We here at Potter Brothers take boot fit seriously. It’s the thing most riders get wrong. Having the proper fit is about more than just size. Different brands and even models in a lineup can fit differently. This is why we don’t sell boots online and it’s also the reason why we carry such a wide variety of models from Thirty-Two, Vans, Burton, and Salomon. It’s a lot to navigate, but that’s what we’re here for. Having a properly sized boot will not only step up your performance, but give you that ride all day comfort and warmth you’ve been searching for.

Elements of a Boot Fit –

The beginning of a proper fit starts with a measurement. We never ask what your size is, instead we take a look for ourselves noting width/volume and measure both feet using a Mondopoint device which uses centimeters to get as close as possible to your “True to fit” size. Now, we’re not here to race fitting everyone. There is a bridge between comfort/performance. Through conversation about your level and aspirations, while dropping your feet into some different models, we’ll find the perfect fit for you.  It’s our job is to educate you on the benefits of getting as close to that true to fit measurement as possible, while accounting for what you’re needs require.

How a boot should feel out of the box –

  • Toes touching the front, not crunched or turned over.
  •  All liners on our wall are heat moldable (some more than others). Meaning out of the box is the tightest they’ll ever be.
  • If it’s comfortable (sneaker fit) out of the box you’re probably in the wrong size!

Heat Molding Process –

Once we decide on a model that’s the right fit you have the choice to heat mold right then and there or let
them naturally break in from riding. To heat mold liners we place the heat molding stacks inside the liner for 10-15 minutes depending on the brand. While the boots heat up we get you into a fit kit, which are neoprene toe caps designed to create that little bit of extra space you’re looking for. Once the liners are done heating, we put the boots back on with toe caps over the toes and lace up. As the boots cool down they will mold to whatever is inside. It takes about 10 minutes to fully cool down. Once done they’ll feel cool and get pretty tight. After the process is complete we usually have you try them back on with your normal socks so you can feel the difference.

Whether you decide to heat mold or break in naturally it takes around 3 days of riding for boots to fully break in. That heat mold process does skip the first day or so but still expect some growing pains. Breaking in new boots isn’t always fun, but trust me it’s sooo worth it!
