OFF-SEASON CARE AND STORAGE TIPS FOR YOUR GEAR

Here’s our expert tuner Ryan with some tips for caring for your gear in the off-season. Ryan is a key part of the PB fam and is now going on 4 seasons. Get the knowledge here and feel free to hit us up with any additional questions regarding care and maintenance of your gear.

Items Needed

> Wax – Anything you got!

> Wax Iron – either a dedicated for ski/board or clothing. DISCLAIMER – IF using clothing iron for wax, it is NO longer a clothing iron.

> Scraper – Plastic or Metal (Personal preference) Metal is faster, but you can run the risk of pulling base materials if not careful. If you’re new to this we suggest plastic to get the basics down!

> *Snowboarders only* P3 Screwdriver – Don’t be lazy! Remove those bindings to make the wax job easy and keep them off for Summer storage.

> Gummy Stone – smooth out those burs and take care of any rust

> *Optional* Base cleaner/wax buster – This will clean and prep your base for a new coat of wax

Steps

Step #1 Remove bindings or rubber band your Ski brakes so they’re out of your way.

Step #2 Prep base. Clean any dust, debris. OPTIONAL – Hit with base cleaner. Allow base to dry fully before applying new wax.

Step #3 Melt/Drip wax onto base. Be liberal; but less is more here. Temperature of the iron here is key. Not too hot (smoking), not too cold (sticking). Every iron is different, so be mindful to keep the iron at a temperature where it glides with no smoke. Massage into base. Even coat from edge to edge. Be mindful to keep the iron moving; leaving a hot iron in one place for too long is no bueno for your rig.

Step #4 Leave the protective coat of wax for storage. If you’d be happy hanging where you’re storing your board for the summer, so will your board. That means warm, dry (roof over your head vibe) and preferably climate controlled. Jimmy Peak store manger Paul F. implores you to not store on concrete!

Step #5 – You’ve done it. Sit back, crack a beer and enjoy summer!
